Extending Our Reach

Our Diversified Western Canadian Pipeline:

Extending Our Reach – from the Prairies to Markets Around the Globe.

From seed research through agri-food and feed processing, Viterra is connected to customers at each stage of an integrated pipeline that starts with farmers and extends to destination customers. Along the way, we leverage these relationships to provide more value and capture greater returns for our investors.

Here’s how our pipeline works:

Viterra owns and operates a comprehensive network of grain handling and marketing terminals, retail outlets and value-added processing facilities.

Thunder Bay

593,000 tonne capacity

This port ships products to markets in the US, Mexico and Europe.

Prince Rupert

64% ownership

210,000 tonne capacity

Vancouver

51% of total port capacity

482,000 tonne capacity

These ports ship products to markets including Mexico, China, Japan, India and Pakistan.

Farmers

After serving farmers for more than a century, we have built a reputation and relationships that make us the preferred choice in western Canadian agribusiness. This strengthens our ties to growers who provide crops for value-added processing and destination customers.

Marketing/Merchandising

We maximize margins by using international partnerships and alliances to find the most profitable markets for Canadian crops.

Grain Handling

Grain handling is the hub of our pipeline – the point where we connect farmers with customers around the world.

With almost 2 million tonnes of grain handling capacity, our market share exceeds 40% and we access more grains and oilseeds than any other company.

Livestock Feed and Services

Our pipeline includes services for livestock producers, with a system of feed mills in western Canada, and south central US. This extends our portfolio and allows participation in an industry with stable, non-seasonal margins.

Positioned for Growth

Viterra has a strong presence in North America. Now, we seek ways to advance our interests internationally. With a strong balance sheet and credit profile, and with good cash flow and an efficient network of assets, we believe we are ideally positioned to do this. We enjoyed success in our core business of grain handling, agri-products retailing, and its many associated businesses and partnerships. This will remain our strong focus. Now, we seek new, value-added opportunities that leverage this core foundation. Our preference is to pursue growth through acquisitions, an approach that allows us to participate in consolidation opportunities and gives us quicker market entry. Our two-prong approach to growth will enhance our significance in the international agribusiness industry and increase the likelihood of more immediate returns for our investors.

Financial Products

Farming is a capital-intensive business. The company has an alliance with a major Canadian financial institution and extends credit at competitive rates, making ourretail centres attractive one-stop shops.

Agri-products

Viterra operates retail outlets across the Prairies, providing everything farmers need to grow, deliver and market their crops, including seed, fertilizer, crop protection products and equipment.

Research and Development

Our plant researchers develop proprietary varieties that maximize yields and meet the specific requirements of food processors and international customers. Our lineup of highly sought-after varieties now includes the Proven® line of seed.

Destination Customers

With identity-preservation programs and long-term, customer-specific production contracts, we deliver the exact products needed by value-added processors around the world.

Value-added Processing

Through wholly owned subsidiaries like Can-Oat Milling and investments in companies like Prairie Malt and livestock feed and services, we are able to increase the value of grains and oilseeds we handle.

Transportation

Almost two-thirds of our elevator capacity have 100-car rail spots, enabling us to transport greater volumes while capturing the maximum incentives from rail companies. Grain is then moved through our port facilities at Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Thunder Bay, which provide us access to Pacific and Atlantic shipping routes.
